A Promotional Video....

A great place to visit.....

Monday night (September 21st) a group of film makers came together to make a promotional video for the Forty South Farm's Dark Woods extravaganza for Halloween.

They needed an old unremodeled house and guess where they were???  That's right The Old Loxley Hotel right there on Baldwin Street.

New Reports on the Hotel

The next bit of news is of a book that was published on August 10, 2015 about the Hauntings of Baldwin County....

 
 Now to look at the cover of this book which is of The Old Loxley Hotel... you might get a bit spooked.  Yes--it does look haunted and the second window on the right looks like a little girl looking out of the window but we have taken steps to ensure that this house is not haunted.

All those lost souls there are no longer occupying this building and they have all gone home.
Here is what you should see instead:

A beautiful building awaiting our tender loving care...
We are writing for another grant at this time so we are hoping soon....Pray for our success as this building will be an asset to our community.

Update for the Restoration......

 

This is the latest picture of the south side of the hotel....  We had to put all work on hold as we did not have the funds to continue.  This was heartbreaking as we could not move forward and it was painful to even drive by....

But we have sent an application for a grant for the money to complete the whole project and open as our museum and bed and breakfast if this funding comes through.

We are praying this will work for us... We are so anxious to get going on this and if we do get our funding, it will be fast.  We have many people who have come to help us through their expertise and craft.

Hopefully next month we will find out....

The Posts are in!!!!!!

Ken the Carpenter has placed the bottom four posts to the wrap around porch on the south side of the building and it looks great!!!

It's coming along nicely and next week we will have the balcony started!!!!

Week of April 8th

We have started back in to finish the exterior of the hotel....
The South side of the building was in great need of repair in a hurry.  We were finally able to start and found something wonderful......

Here the south side porch had layers of wall coverings and needed to be pulled away.....the great find we saw was that there were TWO layers of siding underneath!!!

If anyone has ever tried to match wooden siding on an old house then you will know how hard it is to find a match......









But as you can see on the picture to the left--there are two layers that we can use.  The original siding in off white and the other layer on top which will be used for the rest of the house.  We have a whole side wall full!!!  So exciting......

Here the wrap around porch is finally seen as it was originally in the top picture.  So exciting to see the progress....
