Activities at the Old Loxley Hotel

Where the Gift Shop will be
Our Plans:
Take a step back in time to see how the world lived in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s in Baldwin County, Alabama. As the railroad went right in front of the hotel, the train would stop near the hotel and visitors would step off the train and rest themselves at this hotel.  Some travelers would get back on the train to travel on to Foley while others would stay in Loxley at the hotel.
Our tour starts on the front entrance of this 100 year old hotel as it was built to service the traveling folks of the railroad. As you walk through the front doors, music will be playing from that time period.
Tour through the living area of the first floor of the hotel which will include a history room with displays of dolls, pictures, books, games, radio, furniture and other objects showing the lifestyle of that time period between 1920 and 1940.
Then walk across the hallway to the sitting rooms including original fireplaces, piano and furniture from that time period.
The Craft and Wash room is across the hallway where handmade crafts are displayed.  Knitting, crocheting, rug making, quilting, washing and ironing clothes will be demonstrated. The next room is the dinning area, and kitchen with demonstrations of bread baking, food preparation, icebox, dinning and living style.
A Confederate Room will be shown with the history of The War Between the States, Union and Confederacy flags, paintings and other memorabilia.
Right next door will be the Family History room where visitors can type in their name and their ancestors to learn about what their history was from the past.
Upstairs will show the sleeping arrangements and bathing of times past.
Back downstairs the tour will end at the gift shop which will include keepsakes of the 1920 through 1940’s era.  All monies earned from the gift shop will go towards the upkeep of the hotel.
