Working on the grounds

We had the opportunity to take care of the grounds of the Hotel last Saturday as no one was available to cut the grass so we told Mrs. Wilkins we would do it.  Most of the grass was brown but we did clean up more of the grounds as well as cutting the grass. As you can see from the picture on the left there is much work to do.  I decided that we would extend the outside porch to around the corner so the column partly covered by the wall will be free standing and we would have more of a front porch. My plans for the grounds includes a traditional southern flower garden with a brick walk-way and a fountain. It should look great when we are done.

Jim is shown on our lawn mower cutting the grass and I was able to hit the front with a push mower and rake up the weeds and extra branches. I have been working on some grants to get funding for restoration of this wonderful building but it has not come to fruition as of yet.  The trick with restoring building is perseverance so I need to keep pushing forward.  Both Jim and I have some great ideas to really add to the interior and exterior, we just need the funding to follow through.  All in good time....
